caractères, merkki and of course, characters...part 2

Good Morning to all!
Today is the 11th of September which means there is exactly 9 days until the wonderful Brisingr comes out. The widget to your right is available for the taking if you wish to keep an eye on the days counting down. If you live in Australia come to my shop Collins, we like customers! :D

As celebration for this day coming up I have decided to add another character to our blog. This was one of the first characters Helsinki and I created. Her post will appear later with her character. If you haven’t read Eragon or Eldest I suggest you don’t read further as there are major SPOILAGE!** for the win?

If I was a character from Eragon/Eldest/potentially Brisingr I would be:
Name: Eviée
Costume: black and green pants with a top that wraps around the stomach. Bandages all down her right arm and shoulder and ink on her left shoulder blade of a crest with a sword, later being known as the crest for telling people she is known to be the best swordswoman in all of Aalagaesia.
Side: The Varden
Lover: Murtagh
Specializes in: best swordswoman in all of Alagaesia
Personality: she’s got a very strong backbone and is often to the point of being stubborn. The only person she bends for is Murtagh and is a very good friend to Eragon when meeting him in Eragon. She gives him good advice with his sword and teachers him to love his weapon, showing her loyalty to the Varden by saying “if they asked me to kill, I would, if they asked me to surrender I would…if they asked me to die…I would”
Story: lived with Murtagh, were best friends and forbidden lovers because of their background and Murtagh’s fathers past. After Murtagh flees he says to leave after him so people don’t think they ran away together. She runs away after and in Eragon is on her search to find Murtagh. She joins the Varden and meets him when he is captured. She helps him escape when the war is happening. They fight together and reveal their love now that they are in a safe environment…for now
In Eldest when Murtagh dies Eviée retreats to her room and only comes out to train and eat. She doesn’t talk to anyone but Eragon and develops a good relationship with him before he leaves to go to the elves. When the war comes and she sees Murtagh and Eragon fighting she tries to break them up. She finds Murtagh has changed and is too late to do anything as Murtagh knocks her out and takes her away on his Dragon. In Brisingr the story will fit so Eviée is bound to him through his magic and cannot leave further than he wants. She reveals later on in the story when begging to go back home that she needs to go back because she is pregnant….da da daaaam
Fear: Galbatorix, Dragons

sorry for the lack of photo i shall post one later!

Breaking Dawn

Well it is the end of August and now well into September. First lines month is over, not that if was much of a month!

But the best first line was found to be from jess:

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun."
-Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy-

And now moving on to more important things. Like more books.

It has been found that after reading Breaking Dawn not many people were happy with it, including me.

A lot of jokes have been trolling through the internet about eating out uteruses; it being a fail fan fiction, even artwork on deviant art takes the piss out of what used to be another Harry Potter. At least J.K Rowling wrote the story for herself and not to please her fans!

Did anybody else think that SOMEBODY should have died!!? I was expecting at least Charlie to die.
For me though, I did not read Breaking Dawn so my review is coming from someone that doesn’t have FULL knowledge. Even though people told me everything about it, I couldn’t stand wasting my time reading it just to find out that she went back on all the rules of writing and her own rules with vampires in general, just to please her audience, which she still failed to do seeing as so many people were unhappy.

The fact that she made her main character be reluctant to marry the man she loved, yet be perfectly fine with being pregnant is saying something to small teenagers. It’s not exactly aimed at adults as much as adults can read young adult fiction; it is originally for….young adults!

I can’t even rate this story, it made me so angry I couldn’t finish it, me, book nerd, couldn’t finish a book!

Helsinki on the other hand did read it, so her review would be worth more of a read then my tantrum.

Catch peeps!

First Lines (update)

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

romeo and juliet

reminding me so much of the wonderful performance by Baz Luhrmann and capturing this first line in modern society with a tiny tv on the screen with a news report of two lovers dead.

still need more comments peeps!

The Mediator

The Mediator by Meg Cabot

Ok so this is a book i re-read recently (i have a habit of doing that whenever i get bored- Jinxs hates it when i do this cause she reakons its a waste of time) and i have officially decided that i am in love with Meg Cabot's writing style.

So the series The Mediator is based around teenage mediator Suze Simon who is forced to move from New York to California to live with her mum and new step father and three step brothers. Upon arriving at her new home, a done up 150 year old hotel, she meets her new room-mate, Jesse, who happens to be dead. Enter a very angry and strong ghost at Suze's new school and its a party in Ghost town.

Anyway this book is funny and action packed. The main girl kicks ass- what more could you want in a main character?

First Lines

There is something very delicious about picking up a fresh story. Something amazing about tearing into a new journey, opening the crisp pages to read the first lines of a story ready to feed on your energy. The first lines of a book have been on the topic of authors blogs for a little while now and I’m wondering whether anyone knows if there has been some festival celebrating these fantastic lines or something that’s coming up? If not I believe there needs to be celebration! Now, if you ask me what my favourite first line is that’s pretty hard right?! But if we all look hard enough and give our own opinions of a couple we both cherish, I think that Blind Sisters can come to a final best first line. That is, if enough people comment. So Blind Sisters ask you:

What is your favourite first line?

Remember, don’t just look at books. These can be poems or anything in literature in general like plays etc. Who knows, you might find a nice first line from a book you studied in school. Come on what about The Kite Runner!? “I became what I am today at the age of twelve, on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975.” And whoever said you couldn’t take excerpts from books that don’t exist! People who have read “Hotel Sorrento” the play or even seen the movie (1995) would remember the book Meg Molyhan wrote “Melancholy” and the first lines that said “In the autumn, the dusk fell gently. She sat at the end of the jetty listening to the tinkling of the masts and the water lapping at the poles. The jetty creaked at the joints and the boats bobbed about deserted now. There was a nip in the air”
Pretty imagery. And now I leave it up to you! I will be writing some entries every now and then while also commenting on your suggestions for the best first lines.
Catch you and thank you for taking a part in this celebration!

caractères, merkki and of course, characters...

Evening fellow bloggers!

If any of you are as crazy as me then you have done what I am about to explain. If one is reading a book or watching a movie, and likes the storyline of even just a character in the story, I merge myself into the story without changing anything around. Has anybody else ever done this before?

If you haven’t ask yourself “if I was a character from *insert title here* then I would be...”

Its heaps fun and if you were as sad as me you would have done it more than once. Today I will only tell you one of my stories however I will tell you more in other posts. Sketches of characters from Helsinki are coming soon.... but here are the drafts above you. the real ones will be posted later. if you want them bigger to see the finer awesome the boots :D then just tell me and i'll make a link.

Tell me about your character!

*Beware spoilers ahead for people who haven’t read Wicked Lovely/Ink Exchange*

If I was a character from Wicked Lovely series/duology I would be:
Glamour/Speciality with being a faery: Glamour is Black clothing lots of piercings and shows off Ink. Speciality is the vine tattoos being able to move and extend out in shadows to bind people temporarily.
Favourite King/Queen: king, Irial because of the respect she has for him. Aislinn because she respects how strong a person she is and hates Keenan therefore loves the control Aislinn has on him.
Court: Dark Court
Lover: Rabbit (Bunny Boy)
Personality: she’s really sarcastically cheesy towards Rabbit and he loves it. She’s really bubbly yet her glamour is Goth. When she’s a faery she has bright colours to stand out from the Dark Court and she becomes very serious and careful with her words around Irial.
Story: she loved coming to “Pins and Needles” just to see Rabbit. They eventually fall in love and Rabbit ends up telling her all about faeries and the whole story that Wicked Lovely revolves around. In Ink Exchange she appears more in the story as she asks Rabbit to have the sight. He gives this to her in a transformation through ink as she also asks to be bound to him so she can become part faery and therefore be respected and safe in the Dark Court. He does this through a type of ink exchange while Leslie is going through the same thing. She becomes half faery, is bound to Rabbit and joins the Dark Court as Rabbits wife by the conclusion of the story proving that her choice was something that she did decide and because she understood EVERYTHING that was going on with the exchange and wasn’t forced into anything she’s much happier in the Dark Court then Leslie was.
Ink: Wings on back, vines all down arms that move with different emotions (i.e. heartbeat rate)
Fear: Irial

Ink Exchange

Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr is the second in the new series of Wicked Lovely (see below for review)

Think Stephanie Meyer, add in life issues that are more mature and realistic, add in tattoos and the magic it can make people feel as well as help others understand the true meaning of ink, and then think faeries instead of werewolves and vampires. Here, we find Ink Exchange. The character is different to Wicked Lovely; however some of her story revolves around our beloved strong Aislinn. What I love most about Melissa Marr is that she’s not afraid of making her female characters stronger, as well as smarter as her male characters. It’s not in an obvious feministic way, rather subtly slipped in every now and then.

Once again the wonderful story that is about these faeries in our world reflects the message that is the best moralistic approach you can have in a story. That is, everybody has choices and every choice you make is YOUR choice. Such an original approach and reflectively must be something that we can draw out of our own lives at some point surely. Would you agree?

As Melissa Marr is a new author, Wicked Lovely being her first novel I don’t know her writing skills well enough to judge whether she’s making these two books into a duology, therefore making Ink Exchange the finale, or hopefully making a trilogy or series.

Either way I vote this awe-inspiring story 5 out of 5. Reading half of the book in 4 hours (the quickest I’ve ever read a book) and keeping me up until 1 in the morning. That’s how much its good. It made Jinx read it for 4 hours straight.
I truly recommend such a masterpiece. I am speechless for words on how this book is. For fear of ruining such a good thing I know I didn’t give away very much of the storyline, but it’s for your own good. And just to make you want to read it even more let me give you an image of what I looked like when I was curled in bed on the last night of reading, halfway through, reading for 4 hours and my mouth resembling a perfect O shape. I swear I could see the eyes of that tattoo staring back at me as I lay in the dark after trying to take in and fully processing each characters choice.

An explanation

A new exciting thing has been added to this site. As you might have noticed we have an ipod playlist for your ears. But we're not just putting random songs on there. Noo we're choosing songs that are inspired from books.
The list at the moment is the following five with explanations. They may change over time but so far they are:

1. Summer Wine - Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon
Melissa Marr has created a wonderful playlist for her fans. At the back of a special edition Wicked Lovely (paperback) there are a number of songs that go with specific scenes. Summer Wine by Bono and The Corrs are the one she chooses but I choose Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon because its just that little bit more interesting with Ville's angelic, yet rusty voice. Just magical. The scene in which it's from is "at the faire"

2. Pretty Girl - Sugarcult
Another song chosen by Melissa Marr except this scene is Donia and/or Keenan after the faire. I find it such an interesting song to go with the scene, yet once again Melissa has made it fit in so well. Sugarcult are great. If you dont recognise them then you might know the song they sing "Bouncing off the walls again" which is the themed song to Van Wilder starring Ryan Reynolds.

3. Talk Show Host - Radiohead
Taken from the Baz Luhrmann production Romeo and Juliet I thought we needed a Shakespearean piece. I would have chosen Kissing You by Des'ree but it was cliche and I find Radiohead much more interesting. A great song that presents the movie before us as the curtain comes up on the DVD menu.

4. Crystal - Stevie Nicks
Did anyone know that Practical Magic was originally a novel?
Well i didnt. So here is another song from the movie which captures one of my favourite scenes in the story. Crystal by Stevie Nicks captures Sally inventing this man she believes shall not exist, so she will never fall in love and so "never die of a broken heart." As the petals circle off into the sky Crystals vocals, but especially the instruments capture the intense magic.

5. Keep Holding On - Avril Lavigne
This song was written for the movie Eragon which captures the connection between Eragon and his dragon Saphira. This song is on the soundtrack and is a really pretty song. I always imagine ballroom dancing with Murtagh...however you didnt need to hear that...

If you have any suggestions let us know!

Thanks guys!

A quick review of speaking of

Speaking of....books dying!
My work friend today pointed out a book to me that used to be on the year 12 list until taken off for unknown reasons. The teacher at her school told the class that it was about the future and the status of books. Well lack of.

Fahrenheit 451 is about our world if books didn’t exist. Nobody reads and in fact books have been burnt. However, an underground minority of people have memorized books and have become "walking books" being able to recall passages from many types of books. I don’t know much more then that but it made me think of Sherman Young and Blind Sisters viewers.

so check out this book I’ve already ordered one in. once I finish Ink Exchange I shall review that. (Stupid year 12 making me read ever slower than usual!!)

The Book is Dead, Long live the book

I've come to the sad realisation that books are dying.
The Book is Dead by Sherman Young is a fantastic example of what the media and our world is doing to our culture. Although the media can be a fantastic thing in our life and a modern idea for our generation’s existence, it also kills the one thing that we all need in our live. Good old books.
The point of this book is to not only discuss that books are obviously dying (which is scary because I aspire to be a publisher eventually) but also the fact that book culture - great ideas and a deeper conversation - will only survive if everyone starts using the new media technologies such as eBooks and electronic distribution.
Sherman Young isn’t one of those usual people who decide to grab an idea in our life and expand it into a book *cough* self help *cough* nooo Sherman Young is the, and I quote “Media Studies lecturer at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.” So really, he knows his stuff.
What we sometimes fail to realize is that we are drowning in our own culture. We are being eaten by new technologies that seem to want to improve our availability to stories and communication. Even Sherman has proved this point by offering different ways to download his book on his own blog! While other comments state that they suggest different ways so it is available to them!
It’s all very scary and it all has to slow down. We need to appreciate what we have right now! In the now we have this beautiful creation where a bunch of papers stuck together is called a book and wow does it open our eyes to new beginnings, new ideas and most of all new worlds. In the now there are factories that create these beautiful pieces of work and the people working there have the coolest jobs ever! Their job is to meet the people that create these beautiful things and making their beautiful ideas into what we all call a BOOK. One day. And it may be very recent. Books will die. Publishers will lose their job and we will all be sucked into thinking we need these new technologies like eBooks.
And now I rate this book 5 out of 5. Spot on. And a good book to read! This is coming from the person who hates anything that’s non-fiction. Sorry but I don’t. But now I actually consider looking in the reference section at work every now and then, as this is where this creation is found.

Wicked Lovely

Well while I wait for Helsinki to finish twilight debate (part 2) I shall review a book that is better than my eyes
I present to you wicked lovely
Wicked lovely is about a girl named Aislinn...and she has The Sight. In other words, she sees faeries.
Faeries are creatures unlike your usual fairytale princesses. These are evil faeries. They kidnap mortals, they manipulate mortals and they are just downright mean. And this is where Keenan comes in. He is also a faery; however he is the Summer King and he wants Aislinn for his wife. Why? Because he’s been searching for one for about 9 centuries and is desperate and he seems to be certain that Aislinn is the one. He’s also a loser and I don’t like him.... (But I won’t go into that). While all this is happening Aislinn has to hide from the fact that she can see faeries, talks to faeries and now why she wants to avoid faeries even more. There is also another boy. Her friend Seth....who is known as the *Humana, Humana droooooooool* boy and is mine! But, he’s another story all together. Just when she is running from this problem Aislinn is faced with a choice. If she refuses Keenan she has to become a summer girl (who are these flirty little annoying things that die if they stay too far away from Keenan) however if she accepts him she has to do a quest...which I won’t tell you what that is. If she passes she will be the Summer Queen, Keenan’s wife. If she fails she will become the Winter Girl and therefore is forced to be bound by constant coldness and serve the Winter Queen...who is the mother of evil!
I think that this book is better than Twilight for the reason that not only is it a wonderful storyline with similar quirkiness and general feel to Twilight but it is written much better then Stephanie Meyer. And this is Melissa’s first novel so good offence to Meyer....I still love you!!!
I rate this book 4 and a half out of 5. The half a point taken off for making me so angry and crazy for the time of reading it because now I’m paranoid about them watching me...sorry friends!
Yours truly,

The Blind Sisters

update: so far this book has become a duology...which i dont see why it had to be it ended pretty well but anyway awesome!
It is called "Ink Exchange" and it has the most win cover ever! i want her tattoo. damnit being painful to get! *shakes fist*

As we all know Twilight is a wonderful fantasy about a love between vampire and human. Summed up pretty well for the series don’t you think! But when we think about the characters involved it is often debatable who works better for Bella. Is it Jacob, the warm, trusting best friend whom she loves dearly? Or is it her first love Edward, who sends shivers down her spine, a real romantic who will always love her right back?
So this is where Blind Sisters came in and formed the Twilight Debate. Helsinki prefers Jacob, however jinx prefers Edward. But who do you choose? In this debate there are 20 questions (the last being your own opinion) and through these question Jinx shall answer for Edward and Helsinki shall answer for Jacob and maybe then we can all decide who we all truly love in the end, and who is truly right for Bella.
1. Whose personality suits Bella more?
Bella needs all the love in the world she can get. From being in such a foreign place she needs someone to protect her, to love her and to take her mind off some things that might seem daunting by being her friend. I think that Edward is right for her because he makes her smile, her heart flutter, her mind be so distracted. Have you ever been so happy that you puff up your chest and you smile like a Jacko lantern? Well this is what Edward does to Bella! They are both willing to do so much for each other that their relationship is on a more mature basis. When Bella is around Jacob there’s stress upon her, yes he makes her laugh but surely that’s not enough.
2. Who is a more humane character?
Edward to me seems like the more humane character because to be that sort of person you have to be compationate character. i think edward is as well as mature and being mature lets you release these feelings and suits bella more. bella needs a humane person of course. a compationate and kind person is needed in her life and edward was like that from the start (of course after he was over trying to not eat her) and was protective, kind and a good friend and beau.
3. Who is more passionate?
Edward is more passionate because of his old fashioned behaviours as a male. From being so old on the inside he is wise, he is strong and he can woo Bella far more effectively then Jacob. Jacob is immature, he’s silly and he is far too young in his mind for Bella. Edward can recite poetry, kiss her in a respective yet passionate way and hold her in such a warm way even though he is designed to be cold.
4. Who would be better in Bella's future?
Jacob is yet to develop his control over being a werewolf. He is the classic idea of an arrogant male in the human world. He has his friends and something else important to occupy him and because of his young mind we can all suppose that Bella will soon be left behind. Especially when he hasn’t imprinted her. What if she’s not the right one? Then she would feel like she wasted her time with him and for what? Nothing. With Edward we know he will always be with her. If she doesn’t turn into a vampire he doesn’t care he’s not pushing her so to him it’s not an issue. Its only Bella’s choice in the end if she wants to. And to bind the relationship even more Edward wants marriage which is proof that he’s serious about a future relationship to last as long as possible
5. Who is physically stronger?
There is no telling who the stronger one is. Edward can crush anything he wants in the palm of his hand. Jacob can self heal and has the powers of a werewolf which is undeniably strong, but I think what is interesting is the fact that Edward will be more useful in his powers to protect Bella more effectively. In my opinion Edward is sure to use his powers to his advantage, what I worry about is that Jacobs powers can be dangerous, even in his hands. If he is the stronger one how can we know that he will use them for good always?
6. Who is mentally stronger?
I defiantly believe that Edward is mentally stronger. He can control his mind to read others, block out everything else and make wise decisions. I believe that Jacob isn’t because he has yet to learn his powers and by learning powers there comes a massive amount of strength in the brain. What has to be controlled is his anger which can be so hard, especially for him who becomes a werewolf by expressing anger.
7. Who 'warms' Bella's heart more?
There is no denying that Jacob is the warmer person on the outside but I believe it is Edward’s personality, and love especially that warms Bella’s heart. There is no need to touch if you have such a wonderful gift to give (his heart and love). Jacob can offer physical warmth but sometimes a cuddle might not be enough to warm the heart. Just to warm the body. There is no proof that Jacob can give such a large gift without wanting to give to someone else; he is very young and might find someone else out there.
8. Who has more the right to inhibit Forks/La Push?
Edward has just as much right as Jacob has. Jacob’s background as them being the original settler doesn’t mean that the decision should be made over that. As we all know the treaty was made and keeping to that allows both parties to stay without one being superior over the other. They are both able to have the same education, same space between then etc.
9. Who is safer to be around?
Edward! Jacob is still learning and yes he did promise to not ever hurt Bella but doing and saying are 2 completely different things and love just isn’t enough to help him control his power. We all know this because there is proof of Sam and his girlfriend. The slash permanently making this beautiful woman scarred for life is just one of the reasons why being with a werewolf can be so dangerous. How do we know Jacob won’t be the same?? Edward has more experience, he is wiser and there is proof when Bella and Edward attempt to have a sex. He was controlled and was ready to try; we all know that if he couldn’t control himself he would stop as he has done so many times before.
10. Who is the more appealing kisser?
Jacob is the classic young boy. Too enthusiastic, sloppy and pushes for things that Bella doesn’t want. Edward is careful, sends shivers down Bella’s spine, makes her feel in such a way that’s unexplainable. It’s sexy, yet respectful. It’s intense, yet safe because he knows what he’s doing. It’s forceful with the approach, yet soft with the touch and never pushing for more.
11. Who is more attractive?
I don’t know about you but I don’t like long hair on guys. Especially the length they explain for Jacob. So not sexy. What is sexy are sharp features with emphasis on the eyes, his pale skin that’s so smooth and looks like silk. I think that vampires are sexy. It’s proven in so many stories that vampires are the sexy ones. Do you see any erotica books with werewolves on the front cover?? No I didn’t think so! (I work in a bookshop I’m allowed to mention erotica!)
12. Who has a better mode of transport?
If we were just talking about Bella’s safety then isn’t it logical that the car is the better mode of transport? Do you know how many injuries Bella had when she rode the motorbike? When she rode the motorbike she was forced to lie to her father. Lying to her father was a bad trait and not a part of her personality. With the car comes trust, safety and come’s a hot car!
13. Who dresses better?
Hmm weighing up clothing that’s stylish yet formal (Edward) and...No clothes (topless Jacob) hmm it’s difficult but believe it or not I would go with Edward once again. Not because I have to but because he truly does dress better. In terms of clothing at least he doesn’t come across cocky to others. If you didn’t know he had a temperature problem then you would think that. At least you can take Edward out in public!
14. Who has a better family?
Edward has a wonderful family that works together and respects everyone for who they are. They come from all over the world and so therefore have learnt the wonderful gift of acceptance in all people. They aren’t discriminative against others because they’ve grown up with people so different. Jacobs’s family is pro Indian. They discriminate against other people and although they are a tight community that are full of love and happiness they find it hard to accept others into their community. If Bella becomes a vampire then she will be immediately accepted to the Cullen a family member.
15. Who has better powers?
Edward has better powers because he can read peoples’ minds. And I’m talking everyone’s with Bella as an exception. And it’s better that way because it makes their relationship more open. A more normal relationship that both Bella and Edward desire. How inconvenient for Jacob. He can hear the thoughts of his clan and they can hear him. Ever heard of privacy!
16. Who does Bella have more fun with?
Bella’s idea of fun is different to what mood she is in. When Edward left her idea of fun was a bad approach. Hurting herself to make her feel better. And strangely this is where she meets Jacob. Stupidly he doesn’t do much to help her “heal” in many ways except help her lie to her dad. And yes he is some sunshine in her day. She needed someone taking her mind off Edward and Jacob was perfect for the job, but when Edward returns she goes back to him. I believe this is proof that she obviously has more fun with him and therefore loves him more and deserves him more because she goes back to him when she’s experienced such a different feeling with Jacob.
17. Who gives better gifts?
This is a difficult one because I don’t read books twice so I can’t remember much about these gifts but I think the greatest gift the boys could have given Bella is to make her happy. She didn’t like gifts so Edward made the CD. Making her feel such love with the effort he put into it was so romantic and so beautiful. Giving her the charm as a diamond was even more romantic because of the sentimentality of it and the fact that it took over Jacobs wooden wolf (proven in the book) was clear evidence they’re better.
18. What temperature is better?
This also depends on the situation and usually I would choose being warm but I do take a liking to winter over summer. Summer makes you sweat it makes you sunburn. Winter allows you to curl up in front of a fire. Cuddle up to your loved one and lets you dream of wonderful things. Summer is the time for fast moving events, rebellious acts and often dangerous attempts to stay cool. Winter makes you spin around to get warm and make you laugh because it makes you dizzy.
19. Who has the worse original transformation?
Three days of constant pain may seem like it is the end of the vampires pain but truly it is not. Once a newborn vampire you are constantly hungry you are constantly angry and you often lash out at your loved ones. It takes so much pain and suffering to become someone so strong that you can be a successful vegetarian vampire (of course) when you think that’s enough pain there is the part that you will never look like your true self again. You will be this beautiful person but you will be ridiculed for your beauty because someone so beautiful can often look quite frightening.
20. Please comment...

OK I am aware that more people will agree with Jinks on the matter of who’s better but I still figured I should give Jacob a shot and present another side to this issue.

Whose personality suits Bella more?

Well this is an easy answer. Jacob obviously. Edward is over protective, unlike Bella, he's mysterious, unlike Bella, he's cunning, intelligent and mature. All these traits he doesn’t share with Bella. Whilst on the other hand Jacob and Bella share the same sense of humour, same sense of fun, both are adventurous and they both like doing the same activities. So tell me how Edward is suited to a person he has no connections with? Hell, the only reason he even noticed Bella was because he wasn’t able to invade her privacy like he could everyone else. At least Jacob saw her as a person- not a curious piece of meat.

Who is a more humane character?

Well lets make it clear that there is a difference between being human and being humane. To be human is to have 24 chromosomes and be mortal. To be humane is to be compassionate, tender, warm and sympathise to people and animals (yeah i that definition). I think it's clear that Jacob is far more compassionate then Edward. He forgives Bella for giving in to Edward before Edward even CONSIDERS allowing Bella to even go down to La Push and see Jacob. Though Jacob is younger he is able to see how much pain Bella is in and sympathise, unlike Edward who plays the protective patriarch and refused to allow Bella to make a choice on her own. And isn’t it Edward who takes the pre-school approach and talks about her soon-to-be-vamping FULLY aware Jacob could hear and FULLY aware of how much pain it would hurt Jacob AND through Jacob, hurt Bella? How is such actions humane when you hurt the people you are supposed to love?

Who is more passionate?

OK so Edwards got the whole soul mate, love forever thing going on right? Is it just me or does that sound reeeaaaalllly last century to some people? Sure he was born 100 years ago but does he have to constantly remind me of my grandpa with the whole love crap? Passion isn’t devotion, its EMOTION. Either love or hate. And Jacob posses both of those. A burning flame for Bella, complete adoration for his pack members and hatred towards his natural enemies. Jacob shows what he's feeling and isn’t scared of the consequences of his passion and emotions. Now THATS real passion.

Who is would be better in Bella's future?

Everything that has a birth should have a death. Its nature. And Edward is the classical example of someone who is cheating such a concept that is as old as time. And sure he didn’t want to be made a vampire and he had no choice but he made the choice to first stray for Carlisle’s 'vegetarian' diet and what’s to say he wont again? It is Edwards choices that’s prove he wouldn’t be better in Bella’s future. Edward broke her and there was only one person that put her back together. Jacob. he makes her happy. She can live a normal, natural life with Jacob. To be with Edward is to allow him to rob her of her family, friends and of her mortality, just because HE wants something. Bella is frickin 18. ONLY 18 PEOPLE. And for all those teens out there saying 18 is old enough to make decisions you fools. Some people don’t even finish PUBERTY by the age of 18. Hey look my boobs are growing.....immortality? Sure just let me put on some shoes.... pfft.

Who is physically stronger?

No-one knows why Vampires exist. It could be from various stories as Stephanie hasn’t mentioned it yet. But we DO know where Werewolves came from. They're natural creatures who exist solely to kill the vampires. And isn’t it clear from the past (im talking AGES ago BEFORE Carlisle came to La Push) that werewolves MUST have been stronger or wouldn’t there have been a population of vampires? Werewolves are bigger, just as fast, just as strong and have the ability to be everywhere at once since the pack are connected. Sure Edwards strong but he's a single vampire. When Jacob is a werewolf he is never alone. Team spirit always beats the individual.

Who is mentally stronger?

Jacob. DUH. Edward cant even properly KISS Bella without fear of losing control and hurting her. And doesn’t this happen like EVERY FLAMING CHAPTER? How many times had Jacob lost control? 4 maybe 5 at tops? Supposedly werewolves are violent in their nature but we can see in Jacob that he would never, EVER hurt Bella. I wish i could say the same for Edward but he seems so hurt her when ever 'it seems best...'. Pfft i've heard that line before.

Who 'warms' Bella's heart more?

Well defiantly the walking heater, Jacob. He's cuddly not to mention smokin' hot. But if you want to get all metaphorical then Jacob still wins the trophy. He makes her happy when the world is crumbling around her. He can put the pieces of her heart back together and make her whole again. At least he doesn’t physically stop her heart like Edward cause that’s kinda …deadly…

Who has more the right to inhibit Forks/La Push?

WEREWOLVES. WEREWOLVES. WEREWOLVES. They were there first. They were created there and have defended it for centuries. The Cullen family are little more then intruders. If you sympathise for the Cullen’s when the Volturi and other vampires come to their town you can easily see the position the werewolves are in. They have a right to defend their land and the people living on it.

Who is safer to be around?

Jacob. Every single moment Edward is with Bella is could kill her out of desire of her blood. The only time Jacob might consider hurting Bella is when he’s angry. And Jacob gets angry a hell of a lot less the Edward gets hungry…

Who is the more appealing kisser?

Well it really depends how you like being kissed. If you like being constantly teased with no reward then Edwards the one for you. But if you like passion, intensity and body on body contact then Jacob the one for you. As far as I’m concerned I’ll take Jacob any day. Just thinking about the way he forces his mouth onto yours…his arms binding himself to you so much that you can’t tell who’s hands are whose…its giving me goosebumps…

Who is more attractive?

Edward has the whole perfection thing going for him. The porcelain skin, bronze hair etc. But isn’t it the small imperfections that make a person so physically appealing? The fact that Jacob is too tall has russet skin and silky shoulder length hair is enough for me. Who needs a dream when you can have reality?

Who has a better mode of transport?

Nothing. I repeat NOTHING is hotter then a motorbike. I ride them. I know the alive feeling you get from the wind whipping at your face as you navigate around terrain. There isn’t anything that compares to such a beautiful experience. Cars are for timid, shy people who are scared of being rained on. Bikes are for people who want to feel like they are actually living there life- not watching it flash by from the cabin of a Volvo.

Who dresses better?

I have a theory. It goes like this. Less is better. The less clothes the easier. Edward has the whole cream colours and label thing going. Jacob has the whole gorgeous, exposed chest, rugged hair thing going for him. I’ll take that any day.

Who has a better family?

Well this ones hard. Alice and Jaspers powers are pretty cool but then again the pack has the ability to communicate with each other at all werewolf times. And sure this may be considered an invasion of privacy but who has privacy when Edwards around anyway?

Who has better powers?

Edward can invade peoples privacy and run fast. Jacob is strong, fast and more importantly funny. That’s a power in itself to me. Humour is important as a far as Edward goes his powers mean nothing if he doesn’t have the power to make me smile.

Who does Bella have more fun with?

Fun means laughter and happiness not dull conversations right? Good. Then Jacob. He makes her actually laugh and can connect with her. Edward talks. And talks. And talks. BORING. Bella loves adventure and dangerous fun! Jacob gives her a type of fun that Edward can’t do.

Who gives better gifts?

Edward gets expensive gifts in an attempt to appeal to Bella’s vanity. Shallow much? Jacob hand carved a little wolf for her and gave it to her. So much more though at devotion than a diamond. It shows that he actually cares enough to spend time slowly carving intricate detail.

What temperature is better?

WARMTH. It stops you from getting hypothermia and DYING. It is clear that the type of weather in Forks requires a personal heater not a fridge.

Who has the worse original transformation?

Three days of complete utter burning agony over a day of fever and anger? It’s clear which one is more appealing to undergo. Lying there, totally defenceless to the pain ripping at your skin…it would be utter torture to anyone…

Skulduggery Pleasant: PLAYING WITH FIRE

So here is the second book to Skulduggery Pleasant. It is unknown if it is a series or a dilogy but by the end of the second one there seems to be plans of more....hopefully. If not that is completely unfair!
So we all know about Mr. Skeleton man. Hail Skulduggery! But what happens when he meets his match? Baron Vengeous is his name and just one of his motives is to destroy the “abomination” that is Skulduggery Pleasant. Him, along with Valkyrie Cain and the epitome of awesome, Tanith Low, fight to the death to try and destroy Baron and what he’s after.
This is exciting. Having just finished this book I am hungry for the next book...if there’s going to be one. Seeing as Derek Landy doesn’t tell us anything on his website as far as I’m concerned I’m just going to guess there is a new one. But besides that I really enjoyed Playing with Fire. It was way more exciting than the first in every way possible. The new characters were all different in some way even though they had similar names and I still had trouble right up until the end which name connected with which character. As an example I will tell you some of the new characters:
Springheeled Jack
Sanguine (sometimes referred to as Billy-Ray Sanguine)
Serpine (there’s mention of him only, don’t worry he is dead!!)

But apart from that the book was fast paced, full of action and took you to places that made your imagination go “Whoopi lets go wild!”
So all in all I rate this wonderful book 4 1/2 out of 5 and I think we can all guess why I took off half a mark...stupid names starting with S...
Catch ya!

Ok so i really should be doing my maths work but hey- who cares? ANYWAY lets get to Timeline.

So Timeline is a rather complex book. If you're not into science or history i wouldnt advise you read it. There's alot of time theories in there and they're not always explained clearly. The history aspect is stunning with accurate references to weaponry and such. The characters are also interesting though i find that when the perspective changes between characters there isnt enough of noticable character traits used.

Timeline is about a group of historians, each with different skills who are given the opportunity to go back in time using state of the art technology and briefly experience medieval France whilst searching for a lost friend. It is extremely fast paced yet the writing style might annoy some as it constantly swaps between characters.

I give it a 4/5 (but im biased cause i LOVE history especially the medieval period)

Much Luv,

All of us here have had a desire to kill something or someone. Don’t deny it we’ve all had the thought or wish. But majority of people wouldn’t actually go ahead and do it. But when you’re trapped in a psychiatric ward and the doctor means to kill you, you start to get worried right!
So this is the story of Marko. Waking up from a drug induced sleep he starts to remember the past events which lead up to him in this place and why the doctor means to harm him.
This book is so exciting and so different to usual stories about murder. The lead up to this earthquake of events proves this by leaving us all to judge for ourselves whether we can trust the first-person narration (Marko) and his motivations.

I really enjoyed this book and its one of the books I would actually read again, seeing as I have never read a book twice before….well not counting the picture books I owned.

I rate this book 5 out of 5. you know why…cause its great! And you should read it…now…go! Go my child!

Catch you all on the flip flop

So Yesterday

I don’t want to tell you too much about this book because truly I found so yesterday in a library quite a few years ago now before I even knew who Scott Westerfeld was. I thought to myself "oh my god so the song ha ha ha well this is going to be a chick flick. lets read it and see if it mentions Hilary Duff" and I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t read the blurb but to just start reading it and surprisingly it opened up my eyes to the medias influence on the way we think and how the youth of today can somehow change that and save our souls.
Hunter, the main character, is the narrator of the story and takes us through his role as a "cool hunter". He meets this girl, Jen, who is known as an innovator. She changes her laces almost every day, wears no brand clothing... basically she is a god.
And that is all I shall give away! A truly awesome story that got me obsessed with Scott Westerfeld ever since.
I give this book 5 out of 5 because of the fond memory i have starting the journey of many books that’s changed my life.

Harry Potter and The Philosphers Stone

Well there isnt much to say on this book cause if you havent read it you must live in a hole.

Ok well this is written in the most basic english possible, Rowling must have aimed it at a much younger audience then the latter books. Despite some difficulty some might have at grasping the concepts of the wizarding world the main character, Harry, is drawn into upon finding out he is a wizard, it is a relatively simple book to understand.

Well the book is based on a young wizard new to the world of magic. Despite the allure of such a world, Harry learns that there are bad things in every world, as well as mysteries, especially at his new school Hogwarts. With new found friends, Ron and Hermione, Harry goes through his school year with ups and downs, finding out things he never knew about himself and his lost family. Exploring the world of magic, Harry unravels a plot that could alter the wizarding world forever.

Overall i would give it 3 1/2 out of 5. I still reakon that some of the other in the series are better. I will review the others as i go along.

Much Luv,

Skulduggery Pleasant

Who ever thought that there was a book out there that had a character named Skulduggery Pleasant who was actually a skeleton man? And he’s the good guy…and he fights people made out of paper…while also taking care of a thirteen year old girl who is the more important then what you think.
Yep you guessed it! This book I have right here! *pats book beside me*
Adventure takes on fantasy, where a girl named Stephanie Edgley is mourning over her famous uncle’s death when she finds in his will that he has left everything to her. This is including his mansion and the proceeds from his best-selling books. At the reading of the will she meets a strange man covered in a pretty strange disguise, later revealed as Skulduggery Pleasant and she finds that there is a whole world out there that’s waiting for her.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It’s humorous, adventurous and has fireballs thrown in the equation! I rate this book 5 out of 5.

Update: his new book is out now called “Skulduggery Pleasant. Playing with fire” and I’m currently reading this book now.
I defiantly like it; it certainly has much more adventure then the first. The only thing is all the new characters have such similar names I always get confused with who they’re talking about and worse they all seem to have the same motive which is even more confusing. They all seem to be the same person in my head until Landy (author) finally shoves a clue as to who he’s writing about that’s the trigger to my memory box! Apart from that very, very enjoyable

Shall finish it soon to blog!

The Blind Sisters

WELL this is gunna be a looooong entry. Im stuck in the middle of relgion class so i figured i might as well make it productive and write this blog.

SO Eragon is a novel aimed at teenage boys but somehow earned my love. Now since im no pretty girl but rather boyish with an unhealthy obsession with weapons you can understand why i am drawn to this book. It is written in relatively simple english, which pretty much means you wont be struggling over big words or anything.

Eragon is a book based on an orphan boy who lives on a farm with his uncle and cousin in the forgotten area of his world, Alagaesia. He knows nothing of his parents except that his mother appeared 15 years from when the books is set, dressed as a noble woman, seeking refuge in her brothers home. Upon giving birth to Eragon she begs her brother and sister in law to raise Eragon before leaving. Now a young man, Eragon leads a peaceful life, happy with his lot- until on a hunting trip he comes across a bright blue stone. He takes the stone home, unaware of how such a small thing will change his life forever. Soon the 'stone' hatches, revealing a beautiful baby dragon. The birth of this dragin spurrs the world of Alagaesia, setting things in motion that only Eragon, now apart of the legendary dragon riders, can change. His quest begins, first out of revenge but soon out of want to save Alagaesia from its despotic ruler, Galbatorix.

I love this book. Simple as that. It read it years ago and fell in love with how it drew me away into another world. 5 out of 5. Easy.

Keep reading because i'll add a blog on Eldest, Brisingr theories and the Eragon movie so if you're as Eragon obsessed as me then we're in for some fun.

Much Luv,

Wuthering Heights

Wuthering heights by Emily Brontё is a classic novel studied for literature in many secondary schools. Ok I know what you’re thinking and I’m pretty sure Helsinki will agree with you about it being terrible but truly it is a beautiful novel.
Although people say it was unrealistic, boring and something that shouldn’t be studied in schools I believe that it is a fantastic example of what true love is and how much people can suffer for what they truly want. The story takes place on the Yorkshire moors in the 19th century and captures the end of a long journey of Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliffs twisted, sick but passionate love. However as Emily Brontё narrates in the movie (1992 version) “not a smile at any part of it” because, much like a lot of love stories this unresolved passion eventually destroys both themselves and many others around them. The story involves two narrators, Nelly and Lockwood as they explain (in their own personal point of views) how each character acted and what they did. Although, as my literature class found, this made our opinions of some of the characters clouded and we weren’t sure how to react with Nelly’s point of view because we didn’t know whether it was the full facts. I enjoyed this novel more because I read it in a small class of students where everyone was passionate about debating and reading and therefore we got a very good response. As we found you can discuss Wuthering heights for hours on end and have your eyes opened up even more to the ideas.
The movie was a fantastic interpretation of Wuthering heights and I am so happy that a movie kept to the script of the book. FINALLY! The only thing that changed in the movie to the book was the narrator and how it changed to Emily Brontё which I found so much better because you got the raw character, heard things from their own mouth and was interpreted by how the author saw them. And really I’ll take her word over everyone’s. Come on she kinda created the characters!
All in all I rate this amazing, original story 4 out of 5. The mark taken off for admittedly being a bit slow
A heads up: there are many versions of Wuthering heights if you don’t like my beloved Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort from harry potter). There is an mtv version where Heathcliff is changed to heath etc and the classic older version of Wuthering heights done in the 40s where Laurence Olivier plays Heathcliff. Unfortunately this version has been deleted off the lists to order in from anywhere because of how old it is. Shame shame 
Be back soon with more!

The Host

Ok, so OFFICIALLY this book isnt out yet but because Jinks is wicked she got a bound draft sent to her from the publishing company. Now when it comes to Stephanie meyer books i like them but i dont wanna go out and marry Edward or move to a rainy area. They were good books but nothing stunning. However The Host was.

The Host is based from the perspective of an alien who latched onto host bodies as a parasite. Currently these aliens have dominated Earth with their superior knowledge, despite being fully against acts of violence. Now when these aliens take over a body they smother the mind left in there. Which gives us a story. When veteran soul (the name given to the aliens) takes over a womans body she learns that she isnt alone in her head. The host, Melanie, is still very much in there, talking and persuading the soul to do certain things. Its not long before the soul and her constant companian, Melanie, go out of aliens perfect society to find the things that made Melanie so human.

The Host is written magically. Considering it is from the soul and Melanies perspective it could have been really hard to read yet Meyer clearly defines each character making it easy to tell whos talking and when. the storyline keeps you hooked and at least in this book the soul ends up with the right guy (unlike Twilight....Bella should have been with Jacob...)

Contains violence, kissing scenes and scenes that make you wanna throw the book away in anger to characters.

I'll give it a 4 1/2 out of 5.

Hopefully when it comes out you will enjoy it. I need to buy a completed copy when it comes so i can see just how much they chopped out.

Much Lvu,

Bridge to Wisemans Cove

Ok WELL this book is pretty much forced upon all high school students in Victoria so it does tend to be loathed. Though once you get past the hate factor it really is a wicked book that sends the reader on a emotional rollarcoster.

So its based on a character named Carl who along with his younger brother, Harley, are shipped off to his bogan aunt near the bay after his mother goes missing and his nineteen year old sister crumbles under the pressure of raising two young boys. Despite being naturally awkward he takes on the role of caring for his younger brother. Upon arriving at the beach he learns that there is an inbred hatred towards anyone bearing his last name. Carl meets a variety of people during his time with his Aunt and learns just how to live life and to stop 'playing dead'.

Included times that will make you cry, love scenes and heart warming moments.

Will give it a 3 1/2 out of 5. If you hate this book from studying it please read it again once your more mature because you'll find it means more now.

Much Luv,

Max by Michael Hyde is just one of my childhood books that shaped the way I think. Michael writes other novels like "change the game" which are those cool books that let you change your own ending. Yeah I know! They’re still around!
Max is a boy around the age of 17. His friend has recently committed suicide and through this short but sweet story it shows how each person in max’s life, including himself deals with this sudden loss. While his father tries to come to terms with it by trying to randomly bond with his two sons Max escapes in his beautiful graffiti that seem to put him in a trance and help him release anger as well as confusion. However, graffiti is of course illegal so when trying to help himself with this loss he’s constantly getting into trouble.

I loved this book because I’d never read anything like it. The way he explains how he paints makes the reader feel like your right up there with him. I could smell the paint, I could see the wall, I could feel the cold night air. It was completely amazing.
I had read Tyger Tyger before I read Max and I guess I would suggest to do the same because his style of writing is very unusual and it takes a while to get used to, but Tyget Tyger is more in the norm but still very cool.

I rate Max
4 1/2 out of 5. half taken off because of the random ending!

and now read my pretties READ!
our books are dying! READ!

Planning and Plotting

so been thinking about the order of the books we'll write reviews on. Jinks will proabably start with the all famous Twilight as shes an Edward supporter. Later on i might write from a Jacob supporters perspective for all those passionate people out there. I'll probably start with a younger aged book but just as well known, Eragon. That and Eldest need to be reviewed before the third book comes out in september. I'll probably review The Host by Stephanie Meyer cause Jinks didnt really like that whereas i prefered it over Twilight. Hopefully that will get done before it comes out as Jinks got a pre-sale copy from her work. It isnt the last draft or anything but it was from the publisher and pretty intresting. Jinks has claim to all Scott Westerfeld books as is her right. Ill do the under rated Rangers Apprentice novels by australian author John Flanagan. Once again these books are for younger audiences but there full of accurate facts about weaponary and battle stratergies n alike. Anyway that should keep us going for a while. Signing off for now.
